Project / Stockholm 2025

Biochar in a
building foundation.

Biochar was integrated into both the aggregate layer and the concrete, combining material performance with long-term storage of biogenic carbon.

  1. 01
    Aggregate layer

Most of the biochar was mixed into the layer beneath the foundation.

  2. 02
    Concrete

A smaller amount of biochar was added to the concrete.

  3. 03
    Materials working together

Cellular glass insulation and lower-carbon concrete with a slag-based binder complemented the solution.

What this case shows

Biochar can be integrated into engineered material layers when performance, documentation and long-term end use are planned together.

From project to carbon removal

Traceable delivery and documented end use provide evidence for separate quantification and verification of carbon dioxide storage.
